Instructions on importing legacy Blackboard Archived Zipped Course Packages

The Package Import feature allows you to upload an archived zipped course package from your Blackboard LMS and import it into your archive instance (maximum file size: 1 GB).

The Package Import feature is available for:

  • Blackboard LMS Legacy Archive instances

    • who do not have a “People” tab in their archive system

  • Users who have Import Management permissions enabled

Importing an Archived Zipped Course Package

  1. Select Package Import from the Navigation menu

  2. Upload your Archived Zipped Course Package by

    • Dragging and dropping the zipped file to the upload area, or

    • Clicking the upload area to browse and select the file from your computer

  3. Once the zipped file is selected, click Upload

  4. After the upload is complete, the system will begin processing the course (extracting and importing the content).

    • Note: Refresh the page after processing begins to view the file in the Extracted Archives list.

The amount of time required for a course to finish processing will depend on the size of the course.

Accessing the Course

Once the processing is complete,

  • A link to the course will appear in the course title on the Extracted Archives list

  • You can also search for the course from the Courses page

Frequently Asked Question

Is there a size limit on the Archived Zipped Course that can be imported ?

Yes. Blackboard Archived Zipped courses cannot exceed 1 GB.

If your file is larger than 1 GB, please submit a zip restore request to the Help Desk.

How long does it take to finish?

Processing time depends on course sizes, smaller courses process faster than larger courses may take longer.

If your course still shows processing after 24 hours, please reach out to our Help Desk.

How do I know when the course is completed?

On the Package Import page, check the Extracted Archives list. The status of your file will be displayed.

What does Skipped mean?

If your file shows Skipped, this means the Course has already been imported into your archive system.

What does Failed mean?

If your file shows failed, it means that the zip file did not import successfully. If the file fails to import successfully, please reach out to our Help Desk.
